University of Alberta, Notable Alumni, All You Need To the Know-The University of Alberta is a public university that is in state ownership and gets significant public funds through the government, unlike a private university.

This prestigious University is located in Edmonton, the capital city of the Canadian province of Alberta. Edmonton is on the North Saskatchewan River and is the center of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region, which is surrounded by Alberta’s central region. The University was established in
1908 by Alexander Cameron Rutherford who was a Canadian trained lawyer and politician and the first premier of Alberta from 1905 to 1910.

Alexander Cameron Rutherford who was a Canadian trained lawyer and politician and the first premier of Alberta from 1905 to 191. He was Born in Ormond, Ontario, he studied and practiced law in Ottawa before he moved with his family to the North-West Territories in 1895, and Henry Marshall Tory who was the first president of the University of Alberta, between (1908–1928), the first president of the Khaki University, the first president of the National Research Council (1928–1935), and the first president of Carleton College (1942–1947) respectively.

However, the University of Alberta is made of up of five campuses in Edmonton, which has over 150 buildings, 60 blocks and a total population of over 46,000 students from Canada and 150 other countries that enroll in 400 programs in 18 faculties. The University is the heartbeat of Alberta, it’s revenue on Alberta’s economy is $12.5 billion each year, which is indirectly %5 of Canada’s gross domestic product.

The University of Alberta awarded its first degrees in 1912, the same year it established the Department of Extension. The Faculty of Medicine was established the subsequent year and the Faculty of Agriculture took-off in 1915. But along with these early milestones came the First World War and the global influenza pandemic of 1918 which distracted the activities of the intuition and resulted in suspension for two months, but setbacks did not in any way dampen the spirits of the University and the continued to soldier on for the purpose of putting things in good shape.

Between 1909 to 1929, the university placed a ban against any form of fraternities and secret societies, since Henry Marshall Tory, the first president of the university, ordered the ban on all secret societies, including Upsilon and Pi Sigma Phi, to be disbanded. The agitation for the ban to be lifted begun in 1927, when students had already formed the Athenian Club to lobby the university. On the same year, several men had formed the Rocky Mountain Goat Club, which was the only official sanctioned due to the lack of secret rituals or a written constitution.
